Precision Monitoring at the Heart of the Network
The L700 is the central node in AIQ’s Insight monitoring system, designed to ensure reliable, high-accuracy data flow across electricity distribution networks. Acting as the system’s data concentrator, the L700 communicates wirelessly with connected line sensors, collecting synchronised current measurements and forwarding them securely to the server.
Every data packet is precisely time-stamped to maintain coherence across the network. In addition to its core monitoring function, the L700 enables over-the-air firmware updates and features advanced capabilities such as travelling wave fault location and high-visibility local fault indication. With optional smoke detection, it also supports early wildfire warning systems, making it a truly multifunctional device.
Key Features
Designed for critical infrastructure, the L700 combines communications, analytics, and precision timing in one robust unit. It not only supports network-wide synchronisation but also enables fault detection and analysis in real time. Its ability to interface seamlessly with AIQ sensors and deliver actionable insights makes it a powerful tool for utilities seeking greater visibility, responsiveness, and resilience.
Accurate Fault Insight
With travelling wave capabilities, the L700 delivers highly accurate distance-to-fault information, helping operators act quickly and precisely during fault events.
Local Visibility
Equipped with high-intensity LEDs, the device provides clear, immediate fault indicators on-site, supporting rapid visual identification during field inspections.
Frequently Asked Questions
The L700 System can detect Phase to Phase Short Circuits, Earth Faults including those of High Resistance (up to 10 kΩ) Sensitive Earth Faults, Cross Country Faults, Open Circuits; permanent, transient and Incipient faults
The L700 and M700 Systems achieve time synchronisation through the use of the GPS timing reference, which enables data synchronicity of 1 micro-second.
Yes, the system has been designed to integrate with SCADA, DMS and ADMS.
Notification of faults and disturbances are communicated to the field team’s smart phones via email and SMS as required and are observable in detail on PC via the graphical user interface which is part of the INSIGHT 7000 system.
The L700 is ideal for rural and hard to reach areas, as it provides the details of fault activity that shows the location of the fault without the teams having the access these remote locations – it removes the guesswork!
