Portable Precision for Targeted Fault Detection
The Insight M700 was developed in response to customer demand for a compact, portable version of the L700 System. Designed for deployment in problem areas, the M700 is a powerful diagnostic tool for locating transient and high-resistance earth faults. It captures detailed information on fault activity and provides accurate distance-to-fault data, making it ideal for focused analysis in complex sections of the network.
Key Features
Lightweight and highly capable, the M700 is ideal for short-term monitoring and localised diagnostics. In addition to its primary role in fault location, it serves as a valuable educational resource for engineers. By capturing and visualising real fault events, the M700 helps engineers develop a deeper understanding of network behaviour and fault dynamics.
Targeted Fault Location
The M700 is ideal for isolating hard-to-find issues in problematic sections of the network, offering precision without full-scale deployment.
Built for Reliability
Its fault trace data provides a hands-on learning experience for engineers, supporting training and continuous development.
Frequently Asked Questions
The M700 system is designed for temporary installation on problem sections of network that are experiencing recurring transient faults that are causing multiple outages. Such faults are problematic to customers as they are repeatedly and continually losing supply. The M700 system captures the next occurrence of the fault and allows it to be located easily even after it has self-extinguished.
The M700 system is a two-node instrument and is designed for temporary installation on problem feeders. The M700 system is portable, whereas the L700 system is designed for permanent installation.
There are three elements to the M700 system, which are two nodes each consisting of three L01 sensors and an L700 data concentrator. The line sensors are fitted to the line using the tool provided that attaches to the utility’s own hot stick. The L700 is fitted to the pole closest to the sensors. An S700 is installed in the substation on the problematic feeder using voltage inputs and clip on CTs. The PC-based INSIGHT M7000 Graphical User Interface comes as a hosted service with the package.
It will identify the location of faults that are transient in nature and recurring along with information of the type and nature of the fault.
The two nodes should be installed either side of the suspected fault locality which may be several kms apart and is installed until the fault has been identified and located.
